So, the flooding wasn't quite as bad as it could've been here, the power held out, and the basement didn't get overly flooded. YAY! \o/
There was an AWFUL thunderstorm Friday night, very heavy rain, and the power almost went out after it. There was a flood warning issued for our county then, but other than the water levels rising again in our streams, nothing much came of it, which I'm thankful for.
Especially because I've heard of other areas being much harder hit than us, including my birthplace and favorite city in Pennsylvania so far, Harrisburg.
The flood waters got so high there, when my parents saw the footage of it on The Weather Channel, they didn't even recognize it at first.
I haven't been keeping up on the aftermath news, but last I checked, about 5 or 6 people were killed in PA as a result of the hurricane remnants. At the zoo my parents and I visited when I was 7, ZooAmerica at HersheyPark, two bison drowned in their pens.
Closer to home, a lot of roads were closed, and at one point, we weren't sure if dad was going to be able to get home. (He did)
It was a stressful time for me and my family here, but we came out of it alright. :)

I'm still honestly shocked it hit PA so hard. I can't remember the last time a state of emergency was called for this state.
Everyone else me and my family know in PA are doing alright, and I'm thankful for that too.

Thanks for the well-wishes, guys, I appreciate it. ^_^

...and in case you're wondering about my current mood selection here, it has NOTHING to do with the topic at hand, but rather over something non-serious in comparison; I just got done watching my anime for the week, the shows I fondly call my "anime soaps," Durarara!! and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, and OMG, GAH, I LOVE THEM SO MUUUUCH. <3

Okay, so I know it's been FOREVER AND A DAY since I last wrote a proper entry here, and I'm sorry for that; one thing that's new since I last wrote here is that I got into a new (to me) anime, Durarara!! (the exclaimation points are part of the title, I think)
It airs on Cartoon Network on Saturdays (on their "adult swim" block at night) at 12:30am (though it repeats on the east and west coast channels we get). I'd heard a lot about the series up to its premiere on the network, and was VERY excited to get into another good anime series. I was expecting to love it, but oh man, I love it much more than I'd even expected. ^///^
Tonight's reason?
SHINRA/CELTY.
omg, I don't even know if this is a popular pa
iring in the fandom (all I saw previously was Izaya/Shizuo 'shipping everywherrrre), but I don't care, it's adorable, CANON, and delightfully weird all at the same time. <3
Shinra, a young scientist and underground doctor who's known Celty for 20 years (weird long story), and has become deeply in love with her.
Celty, a supernatural being, a Celtic faerie of death known as a Doulahan (I have no idea how to spell that ^^'), the headless rider searching for her lost head...who somehow ended up living with Shinra, and growing to fall in love with him.

The more they show of them interacting, the more I fall in love with them as a couple. ^///^
(Yea
h, I'm a shipper, can't deny it now, haha xD; )
After tonight's episode? I honestly want to download episodes of this anime now. xD If only to make pairing AMVs of these two. I don't know what I'd do song-wise for them yet, but omg I loved their scenes in this, their interaction
...gah, they would make for SUCH great AMVs. xD It helps that the animation in this show's pretty damn gorgeous.
It's hard to decide who's my favorite character in this series (Izaya's one crazy, entertaining mo-fo, Shizuo's wild and interesting, and Kida and Mikado's friendship is adorable), but if pressed, I'd probably say it's Celty. She's not just a strong female character, she's a strong CHARACTER, period. She's awesome, she's badass, she's interesting, deep...even funny. Her status as local urban legend in the show really adds that extra edge to it that it might not have had otherwise. (Izaya's showing hints of being somewhat not-of-this-world, but I'm waiting that out; I do love the touch of mystery to his character, though)
But yeah, Shinra/Celty, one of my new favorite pairings. ^_^ It gets me excited for the fandom for this series...this pairing's gotta be supported by a lot of folks, right? Folks who draw fanart and write fanfiction? Right?! ^^;

And FMA: Brotherhood, again, OMG.
I've been watching this series since it premiered last year, only missing ONE episode, and all I can say is that it has only gotten BETTER from then on.
There's too much that's awesome about it to talk about in entirety here at the moment, so I'll just touch on two things in tonight's/today's episode that enthralled me:
Well, okay, the past few episodes have been pretty damn enthralling, am I right? So much action and stuff happening in a single half-hour show, I'm GLUED to the TV when it's on. xD
But anyway, two things that got me emotional:
This will either surprise all or none, but one of my favorite characters, surprising even to me, has become...Greed. (More specifically, GreLing...though I found him entertaining before he took over Ling's body ^^')
Why? Because HE'S TOO DAMN MUCH LIKE AXEL, HOLY SHIT. D8
Honestly, this isn't me trying to jam a square peg into a round hole here, they DO have some character traits in common.
Like, being an insufferable, smartass asshole at times. xD And fun at the same time. XD
But he's become this anti-hero type, not unlike Axel in KH2, somehow finding himself allying with the side of good, but at the same time pursuing his own goals.
And, even though the word "greed" brings about a specific connotation in my mind (that of hoarding money and the pursuit of getting more of it), instead he, as a Homunculus, represents all aspects of it. He wants everything, and yet...what he wants most of all, truly, is friendship.
After his first incarnation, all his friends were killed. After taking Ling's body (Ling consenting, btw; he's a country's prince, and he wanted the Homunculus' power to help lead it), he sought out to oppose his Father, and take over the world in his stead...but it was all really to fill the hole that losing his friends had left in him.
Thanks to Ling (they have a kind of equal partnership. xD), and the actions of his new friends around him, fighting against his madman of a father, he finally realized that.
Which made me kinda wibble-y. :']

Speaking of, Alphonse and Edward, omg. Their love for each other as brothers is something to behold, truly. They way they did the last scenes of this episode, the animation, the voice actor's performances, you could FEEL the pain that they felt, as one sacrificed himself for the other.
Who needs to ship these two as a romantic pairing? Their brotherhood is deep, beautiful, and amazing enough. :']

Soooo, yeah, haha, I just needed to gush over all that. xD; Sorry if I spoiled any plot developments for you anyway, if my warnings weren't good enough. ^^'
I'm WAY excited to see next week's episodes.
(In case you're wondering, YES, I have to watch them on TV, dial-up internet sucks and tries my patience even with short YouTube videos. :|)
Thus why I call them "my soaps." xD I CAN'T MISS THEM, THEY'RE TOO AWESOME. THEY MAKE ME HAPPY. ^///^

I'd talk about other fandom-related things, but this took long enough as it is, so that'll be all the fangirling you'll get for now. ;P

Long story short, I'm safe, and in good enough spirits to fangirl over my favorite anime series. :D
